Malcolm P. McNair Jr., 82, passed away on Sept. 28, 2002, at The Meadows nursing home in North Andover, Mass., of natural causes. He had suffered from Picks disease, a dementia similar to Alzheimers.Mac was born and raised in Cambridge, Mass., and was a resident of Bronxville, N.Y., since 1951, except for six years in the Midwest in the 1960s and the past three years when he relocated to the Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover. He spent most of his summers growing up at his familys place in Madison, N.H.He is a graduate of Harvard College and the Harvard Business School, and several U.S. Army schools. In World War II, he fought in Europe as a field artillery captain.After graduate school, Mac served in corporate management for 35 years, the last 21 as chief human resource officer or chief administrative officer for four major corporations. When he retired from Gulton Industries, he founded his own company, Management Resources International, and joined a group of developing multi-national agricultural companies.During his corporate career, he also served on the Organizational Planning Council of the Conference Board, on the Advisory Board of the Columbia Graduate Business School, was president of the Organizational Development Council of New York, and was alumni coordinator for the Management Beyond Business research program of the Harvard Business School, which his class had funded.In Bronxville, Mac has handled a variety of roles, starting as founder of the Citizens for Eisenhower and Ikes Westchester campaign manager in 1952, and on through Village Republican chairman, Eastchester Republican campaign manager, special gifts chairman for the United Fund, governor and later president of the Bronxville Field Club.He was instrumental in helping New York Gov. George Pataki to successfully be elected to office.Malcolm McNair was an avid skier and co-founded the Drifters Ski Club, located in Jackson. He enjoyed sailing, tennis, bowling, and golf. Several times a year, he would go hunting at his familys cabin in Holeb, Maine.Malcolm McNair is survived by his three children: Elizabeth H. McNair of Lincoln, Mass., Laurie M. Corron of Acton, Mass., and John R. McNair of Portsmouth, N.H.; and two grandchildren, Amy E. Corron and Samantha M. Corron.Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Madison Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wilcox, officiating. Burial will be in the Gilman Cemetery in Madison. Visiting hours will be today (Tuesday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
