Madeline Elsie (Frost) Eldridge, 83, formerly of Village Road, Freedom, passed away March 18, 2007, at Mountain View Nursing Home, Ossipee. She was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Madison, the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Bertha (Hurd) Frost. She attended grammar school in Madison, where she lived until the 1940s, when she moved to Freedom.Madeline will be remembered for her love of her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and her family of cats. Madeline also enjoyed walking and often would be seen walking to her brother and sister-in-law's house on Old Route 25 in Effingham.She was predeceased by her first husband, John F. Burbank, and the love of her life, her second husband of 28 years, Ralph F. Eldridge. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Edwin and Cecil Frost and her sister, Arlene Murphy.Madeline is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Burbank) Bellen and her husband, Donald, of Conway; her son, Michael Eldridge and his wife, Maureen, of Freedom; her stepchildren, Virginia Walker of Tennessee, Pat Rumill of Maine and John Eldridge of Massachusetts. She also is survived by 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom, in the spring.
