Indian Mound Golf Course in Ossipee will open for their 40th season on Wednesday, April 30. The course plans to start out with its original front nine holes and will expand to its back nine as soon as conditions allow. Eager golfers have been pulling into the course's parking lot frequently over the last several weeks to check on the progress of the melting snow pack. With last week's warm weather, the fairways and greens finally emerged from their winter cover, further building anticipation of opening day.General manager Jonathan Rivers reports that despite the record-breaking snowfall, the second snowiest in 49 years, the greens are in great shape."We cover our greens every winter which keeps the soil warmer and gets temps up quicker. This ensures that everything starts growing sooner," stated Rivers, who along with his wife Jacqueline are looking forward to their third season of owning the course.Rivers added, "We got through the winter with no frost or ice damage. The greens and tees came through well." Visitors to Indian Mound this season will find something new in their golf carts, as they will feature Garmin GolfLogix GPS units. These innovative devices help golfers measure yardage on every hole. Another benefit of the devices, Rivers reports, is that they should speed up the pace of play, as golfers do not have to search for yardage markers or walk off distances. Indian Mound's reputation is growing, offering a quality 18-hole course at a great value for all levels of golfers, beginners and scratch golfers alike. Early season green fees are only $22 for 9 holes, Monday-Thursday and $24 for weekends. 18 holes are only $31 and $36 for midweek and weekends respectively. Midweek afternoon seasonal memberships start as low as $595. The course will also host a Ping Demo Day on June 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rivers was named the 2007 Regional Ping Club Fitter of the Year, recognizing him for continuing commitment to custom fitting and its value to golfers of all abilities.Indian Mound started its operations with the opening of its Rivers Edge Tavern several weeks ago. Headed up by food and beverage manager Kathy Meader, The Tavern is open daily and offers a full menu of pub favorites, all of which are available to eat in or take out. The Tavern is a great dining alternative for locals and visitors alike, located conveniently off Route 16 and open 7 days a week. The Tavern is open to the public, golfers or not. The course also features a fully-stocked pro shop with products from Ping, Cobra, Titleist and more. Last week course Pro Fred Torres was busy stocking the shelves with a new season's worth of clubs, balls, clothing and every conceivable item a golfer wants and needs. To make tee time reservations, call 539-7733.
