There are few things these days that everyone agrees on, but I venture to say that since everyone was a child once, summer for most of us was, and remains, a wondrous time. And as a child, the long anticipated arrival of June started the final countdown to the end of school, and with it the promised glories that summer would bring.

June is ever the month when spring folds easily into summer, when May’s black flies dissipate, and the water in our lakes and rivers is at last warm enough for swimming. It is the month of open windows in cars and homes and the time when we, mostly, get to put away our cold weather things for another year.
