Peaceful Journey Yoga presents Kirtan with Shubalananda and Durga, on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Universalist Unitarian Fellowship of the Eastern Slopes, 30 Tamworth Road, Tamworth. The singing of Kirtan-Sanskrit chanting goes back thousands of years in India. Come share in this ancient practice with two divine chanters, Shubalananda and Durga. Shubal has been leading kirtan for many years. His guitar and harmonium playing and his voice of experience give his kirtan a power and bhava (spiritual emotion or Ray Charles-like soul) that is shared with all who join him.Durga opened to the mystical dimension of spiritual music as a child. She has studied with Shubal as vocal responder and percussionist for over a decade, and their chanting brings together a dynamic group energy that carries over to those who join with them in kirtan.Kirtan is an easy practice using simple melodies in call-and-response style, over and over, with more spiritual emotion. Kirtan is fun and just flows from everyones connection to music. Come experience this easy, happy and deep practice. This is a free event but donations are accepted.
