Clifton R. Garland, Jr., a fifth generation native of Bartlett, N.H., died peacefully July 11, 2002, after a long illness. He was born on Sept. 13, 1924, the son of Clifton Sr. and Lucille L. Garland. He served in The U.S. Navy during World War II.Clifton is survived by his wife Jean, his two daughters, Cynthia and Lois, three sons, Clifton III, Douglas and John, and their families; his dearly loved grandchildren, and step-grandchildren, Karissa and Abigail McLane, Samuel, Hannah, and Lindsey Garland, Molly and Adeline Dore and Erik McLane.There will be no calling hours. Memorial Services will be held at the Bartlett Union Congregational Church on Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Garland Childrens Book Fund at the Bartlett Public Library. The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
