Charles Wallace Harmon, 82, of Main Street in Brownfield, died Jan. 27, 2003, at the Bridgton Hospital.Charlie was born in Brownfield and was a lifelong resident, the son of Frank and Hazel Wentworth Harmon. He graduated from the old Bean Memorial High School and from a diesel engineering school in Boston. Charlie was a World War II Army veteran and received a purple heart while in France. He was the Brownfield RFD mail carrier for 30 years. Charlie played several musical instruments and for a time played for the Easternslope Swiss Orchestra. He later formed the Charlie Harmon Band, which ran for 25 years. The band played all over the White Mountain Valley. He was a 50-year member and past master of Mount Moriah Lodge of Masons. A member of the Brownfield Community Church, Brownfield Historical Society, Brownfield Fire Department, Sons of Union Veterans. Charlie was a pilot and built two airplanes. He was a former director of the Fryeburg Regional Airport, and a member of the Experiential Aircraft Association, a member of the Maine Obsolete Automobile League, the Small Wood Lot Owners of Maine and he was a former town selectman.Charlie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Trumbull) Harmon of Brownfield; two daughters, Jo Harmon and her husband Greg Guerrette of Cumberland Foreside, and Nancy and husband George Kollias of Yarmouth; one sister, Barbara Tyner of Brownfield; five grandchildren, Kim Forthofer, Kerry Rasmussen, Jana, Kristi and Jason Kollias; three great grandchildren, Catie, Emma and Noah-Charles.A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.Donations in his memory may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME. 04037.Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
