For much of the 20th century, there were two popular brands of agricultural tractors; John Deere and International Harvester. While the yellow and green Deere colors still adorn new equipment, the Farmall red of IH has faded, but not before leaving an indelible mark on industries from farming to trucking, to household appliances.

The mighty International Harvester Corp., whose iconic red on black IH logo was created by prolific industrial designer Raymond Loewy and was a stylized silhouette of a man on a tractor, revolutionized farming, and it all came together thanks to a local Maine native named William Deering.
