Auto repairs can be expensive, and cost doesn’t discriminate between make or model. An added warranty can give the consumer peace of mind when it comes to spending hard-earned money on such necessities, but beware: Like insurance, warranties must be understood and handled correctly to reap the benefit.

There are several kinds of warranties in the automotive world, including manufacturer warranties and parts warranties that may or may not include labor. There are warranties offered by third parties, almost like independent insurance on your car’s mechanical condition, complete with a deductible, that may limit work to only specific facilities or ASE-certified technicians and then those facilities may or may not be local or convenient.
