Volvo is one of the last remaining automakers to still be turning out station wagons. Above, the 2025 V90 Cross Country luxury estate wagon. (COURTESY PHOTO)

Fashion trends and styles come and go with alarming swiftness, but not so much in the auto industry, where change takes time and costs more than a pair of Crocs. You don’t have to look beyond social media to figure out the latest clothing design hype and you only have to look in a parking lot to spot popular vehicles. That’s about as much as I’m going to say about fashion however, cars are a different story.

Who remembers sliding around in the back of a station wagon surrounded by metal and glass? I still have a small scar on my forehead from an unfortunate maneuver gone wrong while camped out in the cargo area of our family truckster on a road trip. Maybe it knocked some sense in me, but I can’t remember.
