PORTLAND — Portland Water District (PWD) invites the community to celebrate National Drinking Water Week with a free, family-friendly event that showcases how clean, safe drinking water is protected — from source to tap.

Go behind the scenes at Maine’s largest water treatment facility, which serves nearly one-sixth of the state on Wednesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. for a tour at the Sebago Lake Water Treatment facility in Standish. Learn how PWD treats and delivers 22 million gallons of drinking water daily using advanced processes, and visit the laboratory where water quality is tested. Tours last up to 90 minutes and include walking and stairs
