NAPLES — The Naples Historical Society Board of Directors has been working on a way to connect local students to local history.

Last year, a PowerPoint presentation was developed and shared with the fourth-grade teachers at Crooked River Elementary School. This presentation outlined and described a hidden gem in downtown Naples — the Naples Historical Society Museum. Located across from the Naples Green, the museum houses a large collection of many artifacts from Naples’ history. The collection is made up of different displays, each highlighting a specific era of the past. NHS President Brenda Leo and Museum Director Katie Cash-Staley have put in countless hours organizing the collection building on the work done by Merry Watson and Raymond Dingley, past directors. There are displays including textiles, farm equipment, war memorabilia, home and kitchen items, tools and much more. Big items include Naples’ first fire truck, a snow roller, a carriage, and a boat.
