DENMARK — Fire destroyed a Denmark home last Friday afternoon as the owner and two tenants were able to safely escape.

At about 1:30 p.m., the Denmark Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 316 East Main Street (Route 117). Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire originating from the garage area of the structure. While crews were establishing a water supply, the fire intensified and caused two explosions within the main structure, creating unsafe conditions for interior fire suppression operations. Firefighters transitioned to defensive operations as a result.
