SUCCESS — Cold mountain streams in Northern New Hampshire and Vermont provide some of the best remaining habitat for native Eastern Brook Trout.

The fish, which favor cold freshwater streams with high water quality, once ranged as far south as Georgia. Development and declining habitat have greatly reduced its population, but efforts are underway to stop the decline of the heritage species by restoring its habitat.
