BERLIN — The school board will present a 2019-20 general fund request of $18.7 million to the city council. The figure represents an increase of $659,415 or 3.6 percent over the current budget.

At its budget session two weeks ago, the board had directed the administration to return with a proposed budget increase of $500,000 over the current budget. Reporting back at Thursday’s budget hearing, Business Administrator Bryan Lamirande said the administrative team had reduced the budget by $634,268 but was still $26,520 shy of the goal set by the board.
