BERLIN — The city council Monday night learned that Public Works’ five loaders, used mainly to plow city streets in winter, are no longer safe.

City Manager James Wheeler said to get an estimate of what it would cost to refurbish the existing John Deere loaders, Nortrax brought in a technician and sent photos directly to the main company. The company said in their current condition, the loaders did not provide protection to the operator in case of a rollover.
