BERLIN — The city council last week discussed additional funding for the school department with Superintendent of Schools Julie King.

At the Oct. 21 council meeting, the school district requested an additional $561,865 to meet essential needs. While the mayor and council indicated it could not meet that request without increasing the tax rate over $40, there was a commitment to find some extra funding.
