NORTHUMBERLAND — A Northumberland police officer was able to rescue a young woman from her vehicle after it landed upside down in the Upper Ammonoosuc River Saturday afternoon.

Northumberland Police Lt. William Daisey said an 18-year old woman, whose name was not released, struck a guard rail on Route 110. The vehicle rolled over and landed completely submerged in the river with only its rear tires out of the water. Northumberland Police were notified of the accident and Officer Brian Jenkins responded. Upon arrival, Jenkins determined the young driver had been unable to get out and was still in the vehicle.
