MOULTONBOROUGH — The first of two loon eggs being monitored on the Loon Preservation Society's Live Loon Cam (loon.org/looncam) hatched on Monday and the second was still, as of Tuesday, awaiting signs of hatching.

The first egg's pip (the small hole that forms in the spot where the chick is beginning to break out of the egg) was spotted on Sunday afternoon (July 14). Chicks will typically hatch 12–18 hours after the pip is first sighted. After the chick hatched, viewers were able to watch it take its first swim, eat its first meal and bond with its parents as they wait for the second chick to hatch.
