CONWAY — Nov. 16 marks the 50th anniversary of the Kennett High football team’s first state championship. Many will remember the thrilling season the 1974 Eagles enjoyed and the incredible journey they took the community on when they won the Division III State Championship in Franklin. Kennett High defeated the Franklin Tornadoes 22-19 in a game Black and White Nation will never forget.

“That group was quite a team,” said Don Trimble, now 87, who was the line coach on 26-year-old Coach Jim Donatelli’s team in 1974. “We had a lot of talent, speed, and hitting ability. It was really a great deal of fun coaching them. They were a wonderful group, they really were.”
