CONCORD — Two locals at opposite ends of the county — and the political spectrum — are running against each other for Register of Probate, a position that voters may end up abolishing.

Brett Williams is a conservative from Wolfeboro, who also serves as chair of the Carroll County Republicans. Steve Woodcock is a Democrat from Conway who is finishing up his third and final term in the state House as he chose not to run for that seat again. After Williams filed for the position, Woodcock was drafted to run as a write-in and is now on the general election ballot.
