North Country Angling - Trophy rainbow trout

Arriving at the boat launch at 4 p.m., the fishing partner had just launched the aluminum V-hull boat. It was a classic old-school Maine fishing craft. Perfect for the planned excursion.

The pond has become known for the monster rainbow trout that grow here after they are stocked by Maine Inland Fisheries. October is the time that these fish come to the surface and chase the midges and blue-winged olives that hatch in the late afternoon. This is technical fishing with long leaders and small tippets. More often than not, the fish will snap the tippet like a finger snaps a cobweb.
