The Bartlett School Board’s decision not to send its seventh- and eighth-graders to Kennett Middle School to play sports was not well received by many parents. Because it didn’t have enough students to field teams, for the last nine years Bartlett has paid Conway $7,000 to allow its students to play on field hockey, baseball, soccer, softball and football teams. A majority of the Bartlett School Board said sending kids to Conway wasn’t worth missing 75 minutes of instruction time each day. Bartlett will either field its own teams or hold practice drills if teams can’t be formed. Parents said depriving students of competition puts them at a disadvantage when they enter high school.
This week’s Tele-Talk question is: Did the Bartlett School Board make the correct decision by not allowing its seventh- and eighth-graders to play sports in Conway?
