To the editor:

Both William Marvel’s column on Conway’s fragmented school calendar and Linda Burnap’s letter opposing education vouchers highlight a system struggling with its own priorities. But they reach opposite conclusions about the solution. I’d like to offer another perspective: Competition among schools is the only reliable path to genuine improvement.
