To the editor:

Sun columnist Jonna Carter’s attack on religious faith and her disdain for the illiterate in her Jan. 24 “Onward Christian Soldiers” column; Quddus Snyder’s Jan. 29 column, “Nazi Pig.” Is that all he came away with from his PhD? Dan Van Note’s Jan. 29 letter stating, “Peaceful demonstration is an inherent part of our democracy, but if you sit back and are not engaged, you are enabling those who would destroy it along with our Constitution. Show some courage. Stand up now.” What type of action is Mr. Van Note implying?

Animal Farm is a satire on the betrayal/self-negation of communism; Lord of the Flies traces the defects of society to the defects of human nature. We don't have to guess what Orwell or Golding would have to sat about Trump and the current administration.

Elizabeth, Jim, and our online trolls would undoubtedly tell you that only Trump knows the true meaning of the books. Of course, they also believe he's read the Bible, has favorite passages, and lives his life by it's doctrine.
