To the editor:

On June 6, 1944, 4,414 Allied troops were killed, of which 2,501 were Americans. More than 5,000 were wounded that day. At the ensuing Battle of Normandy in France, thousands were killed and wounded. This is being commemorated as I write this letter in Normandy, France.
