To the editor:

They are "The People's Forests," and they are in danger. The national budget cuts millions from the Forest Service and eliminates forest research nationwide. After making those cuts, the USDA is spending what remains on "reorganizing" forestry work by establishing centers far from New Hampshire. And after decades of service to New Hampshire timbermen and the local economy, the Bartlett Experimental Forest has been left unmanned for a year.
