About a year ago, in an interview at the Sun, former Vice President Mike Pence said that on the morning of Jan. 6, 2020, when President Donald Trump called to urge him not to certify the presidential election results, he chose to defy him and stand by the Constitution. For a sitting vice president to put country over politics and resist pressure from the man he served loyally for four years is truly a profile in courage. And it is notable that Pence withheld his support this election.
In 2022, Trump called for the "termination" of the Constitution so that he would be reinstated as president. That to this very day, he and his running mate, JD Vance, continue to push the lie that the 2020 election was not legitimate undermines our electoral system and should not be tolerated. There is nothing more sacred than the integrity of our elections, and Trump can never again be given the reins of power. It is that simple.Â
