A year ago, after much teeth pulling of the school administration, a copy of the 2022-2033 school audit was obtained. This audit was two years late in being produced and blamed on the new administration learning curve. Once the document was analyzed and the metrics compared to the state averages, it was learned that Conway spends 10 cents on the dollar less to educate its students. The extra money goes to buildings and administration.
One would think that this “truth” would spur some action by the school board. Maybe a deep dive into the numbers. Maybe some explanation from the administration. Maybe just some discussion about doing better for the teachers and the students. The school board remained silent on the issue. No request to the superintendent to make a presentation during that portion of the school board meeting. Yes, the sin of omission. Or maybe our school board lives by the motto “don’t ask, don’t tell.”
