One of the great challenges of being slightly younger, is to find occasion to honor those who are a bit older. The glorious relaunching of the Eaton Town Column seems like a good time to tell you about an American named Nancy Williams.

As a young turd swirling around the proverbial Eaton bowl, it always seemed like the town government boiled down to two characters: Phil Kelly and Nancy Williams. Phil would always boisterously wave his spatula at me like it was some medieval bludgeoning tool, but then Nancy would teach me how to be a good citizen and never cheat on the number of Swedish Fish I put in the tiny brown paper bag, innocently claiming it was only “20-something penny candies” when I darn-well knew it was at least 37.
