JACKSON — Visitors to this month’s 40th anniversary “Return of the Pumpkin People” throughout Mount Washington Valley may be curious to learn the story behind the display put up by the Jackson Historical Society outside the museum at the 1879-built old Jackson Town Hall.

It shows a team of volunteers, one of whom is astride a bike, tugging at pulling the old town hall. Add a crane, heavy machinery and maybe even some oxen like they used to move buildings in the old days (see sidebar), and they might be on their way to achieving their goal.
