CONWAY — Work started Wednesday in Whitaker Woods in North Conway to clear out stands of trees — mainly red oaks — that were damaged by a spongy moth infestation, according to Tim Nolin of Forest Land Improvement tree service of Ossipee, who is the town forester.

Recreational use of the town-owned Whitaker Woods will continue during the logging operation, though users are asked to obey closure signs in specific areas that will be set up as the project proceeds.
