CONWAY — “Don’t quit your day job” is a cruel jab generally directed at someone in the arts who can’t cut it.

But even in normal times, talented artists often need a second (or third) job in to make ends meet while waiting for their big break.

I have so much respect for musicians that choose to entertain full time. I quit my job as an auto mechanic in 1978, and went full time w/ a disco/rock band. But, with no benefits, sick time, vacation pay, I decided to go back to work full time and play on weekends. It is not easy. Packing up equipment every night, loading it into the car, it can get old. My respect to you all. Tim Andrew, Ossipee, NH.
