Dan Fitzpatrick, chef at the Red Parka Pub, a traditional American steakhouse in Glen, began cooking very young.

At age 28, he started his first official job as cook at a little breakfast place in Lowell, Mass. Though he never attended traditional culinary school, he learned from working under many fine chefs, picking up tips and tricks from each.

He has been at the Red Parka for five years, using French techniques to prepare many stand-out dishes.

On June 9, the Red Parka — its name is derived from the jackets the ski patrol used to wear on the mountain — will be hosting Innkeepers Appreciation Night, where new summer menu items will be showcased. This event, organized by the Valley Originals, is done to show their gratitude for the business that the local inns drum up.

While this is a closed event, all are welcome to come to such weekly events as open mic night every Monday, 72-cent wings and a chance to win ski or golf passes from on Wednesday evenings, and live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night.

If you need further enticement, come try some of the new summer menu items, such as blackened catfish tacos with pineapple baja slaw and cilantro lime creme, grilled summer vegetables and goat cheese, or deep-fried lobster macaroni and cheddar cheese bites.
