National Battery Day is today in honor of inventor Alessandro Volta. From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Beth McCarthy will be at Cook Memorial Library to discuss Volta’s discovery and how it has impacted our world. The issues regarding the safe disposal and recycling of batteries will be addressed. If you bring along spent batteries, McCarthy will dispose of them for you.

The New England Ski Museum, conveniently located next to Schouler Park in North Conway, provides a fascinating look at the evolution of skiing in our area. Executive Director Jeff Leich will be at Cook Memorial Library on Thursday, Feb. 19, to talk about the museum’s current exhibit “Before and Beyond the Lifts: Sketches of Back Country skiing.”
