Bessie B. Shackford, 84, of Center Conway died April 15, 2017, at her home following a period of failing health. Born in Conway the daughter of Ernest and Zelpha (MacKenney) Blake, she was a lifelong resident of Conway.

Betty was a graduate of Kennett High School, Class of 1950. She started her working career as a young teenager working at Ruth Kennett Tea Shop, followed by the Sally Lund Restaurant, Peanut Store, Carroll County Trust Company, Presidential Inn, Conway Café and the A&P Supermarket. In 1967 to 1982, she and her husband owned and operated White Mountain Incinerator Service and she retired in 1987 working for Wallace Energy.
