I’m going to lay some info on you that might not come as a total surprise. Ready? New car prices are higher than ever. I know, right? Shocker. And if you’re not already in awe, new pickup trucks sales are also at record levels.

According to Cox Automotive, the parent of such children as Kelly Blue Book — KBB to its friends, Autotrader and Manheim auto dealer auctions, December 2025 set some new firsts. The average transaction price or ATP of a new vehicle was $50,326, up 0.8 percent year over year and 1.1 percent since November 2025. That might not seem like a high percentage but it still comes out to about what I paid for my first motorcycle.
