Hancock Lumber Player of the Week Madison Olsen

Coach Dave Sheldrick has been coaching Madison Olsen on and off since she was in third grade on the Sebago Rec team. Subsequent to those early days, Maddy played for Coach Sheldrick for years at the Club Level with Lake Region Soccer Club, various indoor teams, and now at the high school level.

“Throughout this span of time, Maddy has been one of these best players a coach could ever ask to manage. Maddy is like a sponge — always soaking-up the information that is provided to her — to bolster her skillset, soccer IQ and mental toughness; she is always looking to make herself and her team better,” Coach Sheldrick said. “Whether Maddy is tasked with learning a new drill, sharpening her skills on old drills, being asked to play a new position, or being asked to help manage certain aspects of the team, as one of our captains, she follows orders like a soldier, and has never once pushed-back with the thought of, ‘this task is too small for me.’ If Maddy is unsure of a particular scenario, or feels she can offer up a better alternative, she will speak up and state her position in a respectful manner. In short, Maddy is a proper leader – she leads by example, she tactfully keeps teammates in line, and, if there’s any doubt, she lets her play do the talking.”
