Lillian Chaplin, also known as Scrammie, and “Grandma Jesus” passed on October 27, 2025, at age 79 after suffering a stroke. She was born at her grandparent’s house in North Bridgton on May 24, 1946. She was the daughter of Robert and Doris ( Day ) Allen. She attended local schools and graduated from North Bridgton High in 1964. She went on to graduate from Gorham State College in 1968. She married Merle E. Chaplin in 1968. They had two children together, Lisa and Richard. After their divorce she went on to do missionary work with her best friend Peggy Ward. She completed different missions in the Czech Republic as well as several countries in Central America, teaching people about the Lord, and getting people to accept Jesus Christ into their hearts.
Lillian also spent several years teaching at local Christian schools in Maine and Maryland. She made many lifetime relationships with both her students and their families. “Grandma Jesus” was a woman of her word. She taught us accountability, patience, respect, and how important it was to help others. I will forever cherish our moments together working at the soup kitchens, thrift shopping, and attending church.
