To The Editor:

From experience in public policy and public administration, my instincts are to bring people together to solve community problems. I never think of any political party as having a role to play in solving any local issues, for example, snow removal. I don’t know that there is any party that has the market cornered on solutions for snow removal; the criteria being either that the job gets done effectively or it doesn’t get done effectively. Most local issues are of this sort. Anything else muddies the waters to mix metaphors. Bridgton, in my experience over the last 50-plus years, has resisted letting other matters from away taint our local elections. We look for hard-working, straightforward neighbors with good common sense who have been active in local affairs. We look for individuals who will work to bring us together at the local level. We don’t presume that any party has a corner on this market. It should remain that way.
