CONWAY — There was lots of joy in Mudville Sunday afternoon, as one of the three local mud football teams — the North Country Crocs — won its fifth Mud Bowl championship by defeating the founders of the sport of mud football, the Carrabassett Valley Rats, in the finals of the 20-game 12-team, double-elimination mud football tourney at Steve Eastman Memorial Field at Hog Coliseum in North Conway.
The annual tournament of mud, celebrating its 51st year, featured 12 teams from around New England, including three from the Mount Washington Valley.
