What’s in a name? Shakespeare’s most popular inquiry. First of all, after nearly 20 years of living in the North Country, the only person who has gotten my name right is Laura Jamison. I will have eternal gratitude and love for her generous insight. It must be the Midwest girl in her that contributes to her operable perception. The locals who feel the need to change my name want to convince themselves that they know me, but there is only surface level investment. I am so much more than three letters. Mr. Milfer (sp?), who claims to be my distinguished friend, misspelled my last name. This is tolerable considering the source. For the record, his name is listed with the town of Gorham and on local ballots as “Theodore.” I guess he forgot. As we all know, this is part of the aging process.
