BERLIN — The city council on Monday approved a plan to add traffic signs at the intersection of Grafton and Cheshire streets.
The council amended a city ordinance in a move to improve safety at the intersection of the streets on the city’s East Side, following an Aug. 15 report from the council’s Traffic and Safety Committee.
The committee's report to the council last month started the discussion of placing a stop sign at the western corner of the Grafton and Cheshire streets intersection and a yield sign at the eastern and northern corners of this intersection.
The committee noted the slope, or rise, from Grafton Street to Cheshire Street rises at a considerable angle from the perpendicular Grafton Street. A current street sign warns approaching vehicles of a dangerous intersection.
Per the council's resolution, continued from the board’s Sept. 6 meeting, the new yield and stop signs will be placed.
