DENVER — A former Berlin man is one of seven people indicted on criminal charges by a federal grand jury in a $40 million Medicare and Colorado Medicaid fraud case according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.

Ronald King, 51, described as formerly of Berlin and now residing in Bangor, Maine, is alleged to have conspired with the other defendants to defraud Medicare and Colorado Medicaid by paying kickbacks and bribes to purported marketing companies for referrals for fraudulent and medically unnecessary genetic testing. The referrals in turn led to more than $40 million in false and fraudulent claims paid by Medicare and Colorado Medicaid to the laboratories for the genetic testing claims.
