FRANCONIA — On Saturday, Jan. 17, at approximately 12:25 p.m. New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers were notified of a snowmobile crash in Franconia. The crash was reported on Corridor 11 snowmobile trail in Franconia Notch. The operator had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A Conservation Officer responded to the scene. While enroute, it was learned the operator was being taken by private vehicle to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth.
The operator was identified as Shawn McNinch, 54, of Beverly, Mass. McNinch failed to negotiate an icy corner and struck several trees. Thankfully, McNinch was riding with another person who was able to help get him out of the woods. The snowmobile was destroyed in the crash. At this time, the crash is still under investigation, but it appears speed and icy trails are the main contributing factors.
