Gary Jacobs, 75, was born in Berlin, N.H., on Feb. 26, 1951, and died suddenly of a heart attack on Oct. 10, 2026, while aboard his beloved boat, Slow Ride, which he was taking singlehandedly from Maine to Florida.
Gary was incredibly smart, endlessly curious and determined to live life to the fullest. If there was a way to travel, he wanted to master it. Whether restoring motorcycles and airplanes, piloting aircraft, navigating the ocean or sharing his knowledge with others, Gary approached everything with enthusiasm and confidence. He was a pilot, a captain, an adventurer, a teacher and even a cook. His baked beans were a must whenever company came to visit. He had the biggest heart, an opinion on just about everything, and a remarkable ability to do whatever he set his mind to. He really was a legend!
