At Shelburne’s March 10 annual town meeting, a vote was taken to discontinue the town library and reallocate its space for other functions and uses. As an alternative for book lovers, Shelburne now has a Little Free Library located on the porch of the town hall.
The Little Free Library organization is a non-profit entity that builds community, inspires readers and expands access to books for all through a global network of volunteer-led book-sharing boxes. The organization has been honored by the Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation and the American Library Association. It has been cited by Readers Digest as one of the “50 things we love about America.”
