TAMWORTH — Barnstormers Theatre opens its 89th season with “Damn Yankees,” a musical about a middle-aged baseball fanatic (Doug Shapiro) so desperate to see his beloved Washington Senators beat those damn New York Yankees that he’s willing to sell his soul to the devil.

Yes, “Damn Yankees” — which opened Thursday and is running through July 6 — is a variation on the old Faust legend of a person who sells their soul for everything they dreamed of only to realize they already had all they ever needed.
