Joss Whedon

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been in the process of rewriting a script written by a friend of a friend. To put it kindly, the script, which is set in purgatory, has issues, but the bones of the script were good, so I took on the task of doing a near-complete rewrite.

For years, I’ve read about the Hollywood practice of script rewrites. Often a studio would buy a script and then do a total rewrite of it, sometimes for the better, more often for the worse. In other cases, writers would be brought in to polish a script or to punch up the dialogue. These writers are known as script doctors.
