For the past three years, geeks have been blessed with a cherished Christmas present: a new “Star Wars” movie. Given that it was three years between “Star Wars” movies when the previous trilogies were being made and decades before the prequels were made, this truly is a Christmas miracle. More likely it is that Disney — who now owns LucasFilms and soon the rest of the galaxy — is a force as powerful as, well, the Force.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” — or Episode VIII for those who are counting — continues the adventures of new friends and foes first introduced in “The Force Awakens,” including wannabe-Jedi Rey (Daisy Ridley); stormtrooper-turned-resistance-fighter Finn (John Boyega); resistance pilot Poe (Oscar Isaac); conflicted villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver); and the sniveling First Order lackey General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), along with old friends Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), General Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo).
